Wario

Wario, Mario's mischievous rival, made his first appearance in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (1992) for the Game Boy, where he served as the game's primary antagonist and took over Mario's castle. His role as the greedy, self-centered counterpart to Mario quickly captured players' attention, and he soon became a standalone character in his own right. In 1994, Wario starred in his own franchise with Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 for the Game Boy, where players controlled Wario in a side-scrolling platformer that focused on his strength, treasure-hunting adventures, and unique power-ups, distinguishing him from Mario's gameplay style.

Over the years, Wario continued to lead his own series, including Wario Land 2 (1998) and Wario Land 3 (2000), each introducing new mechanics and puzzle elements. Wario also became a prominent figure in the WarioWare series, starting with WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! (2003) for the Game Boy Advance, which brought fast-paced, quirky microgames to the forefront and established Wario as the eccentric and offbeat entrepreneur he is today. The WarioWare series became a hit for its unique style and rapid gameplay, with sequels appearing on various Nintendo consoles. Whether as a treasure hunter or a microgame mogul, Wario has carved out a lasting niche as one of Nintendo’s most distinctive and entertaining characters, known for his greed, humor, and his mischievous antics.
