Luigi
Luigi, Mario's loyal brother, made his first appearance in 1983 in Mario Bros. as a playable character alongside Mario, though his primary role was as a supporting player. However, it was Super Mario Bros. (1985) that solidified his place in the Mario franchise, where he was presented as the second player in cooperative play. Over the years, Luigi gained more of a spotlight, with Luigi’s Mansion (2001) for the GameCube giving him his first solo adventure. In this game, Luigi was tasked with rescuing Mario from a haunted mansion, marking a shift to more unique gameplay, combining puzzles and exploration with a spooky atmosphere.
Luigi also starred in Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (2013) and Luigi’s Mansion 3 (2019), continuing his own haunted escapades with enhanced gameplay and visuals. While Luigi is often overshadowed by his more famous brother, he carved out his own identity in games like Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., and the New Super Mario Bros. series, where he stood out with his distinctive green outfit, high jumps, and quirky personality. Over time, Luigi has become a beloved character in his own right, known for his underdog charm, courage, and his unshakeable support of Mario in all their adventures.
